10 Weeks Until the City to Bay Run

It’s Sunday and it is now 10 weeks until the Adelaide City to Bay run.  Wow, thank goodness I still have 10 weeks to go because I am no where near ready for it yet.

Although when I got back from my run yesterday I felt good and motivated, but that has disappeared already.  I always feel good after a run, but never before one and I still really struggle just to get up and go out for that run.

But with just 10 weeks to go I really need to get myself into gear and get out there every day, I’m sure that 10 weeks will go by very fast.

Here is my training schedule for this week:

My Best 4km Time Today – A Good Run

I put off going out for a run all day (I seem to do that a lot) because it was really cold and windy today.  We had a storm last night and the wind was still hanging around so it wasn’t all that appealing for running.

But I knew I needed to get out there today since I haven’t run for two days so I did.  My youngest two boys came along on their bikes which was good, it kind of takes the monotony out of it when they come along.

So I worked out my distances using www.mapmyrun.com and ran a full 4km today and did it in 29 minutes.  For the last 1km I was running out of time and didn’t think that I would make it in 30 minutes – that was my goal for today.  But I did it with one minute to spare.

11 Weeks Until the City To Bay Run

I am slowly getting there with my training, although I wish I was getting there a bit faster.  The track that I normally run I had estimated it to be around 4km, but I think I was wrong.

My fastest time around that track was 27 minutes and to complete the City to Bay in one hour I needed to get 4km down to 20 minutes – plus then be able to keep going for a full 12km.

However, yesterday I went somewhere different for my run.  I went to the school where the athletics day for the schools in the district is held and it has a running track around the oval which is 400m, so I know the distance at this track is right.  So 10 laps of the oval will give me 4km.

City to Bay Run Training – 4km in 27 Minutes

Now I’m sure if you’re a runner you might look at 4km in 27 minutes as pretty slow, but for me I’m pretty happy with that.  Considering just a few months ago I struggled to run to the corner and back!

I’ve been running the same 4km track on my runs lately and gradually increasing the running time and decreasing the walking time.  Today I did run 3 minutes/walk 2 minutes repeat for the 4km.

On Wednesday I did the same run in 30 minutes and last weekend I did it in 32 minutes, so I’m getting a little faster each time which I am very happy with as I really didn’t even see myself getting to the 3 minute running stage.

City To Bay – 12 Weeks To Go

It’s now only 12 weeks until the Adelaide City to Bay run which is a 12km run.  I didn’t get much running done last week as my youngest son was home sick all week so I really must get into it this week.

I started the week with a walk/run yesterday which I did run 2.5 minutes/walk 2.5 minutes, and repeated for the full run.  I ran approximately 4km which took me 32 minutes all up.

I think it works out to around 8.5 minutes per kilometer.  I want to complete the city to bay in under 1.5 hours, but would really like if I could do it in under 1 hour.  To do the 12km in under one hour I need to get my speed down to 5 minutes per kilometer.
