Dukan Diet Day 2

I’m at the end of day 2 of the Dukan diet plan and I’m sorry to say that it isn’t going well.  Don’t get me wrong I haven’t gone off the diet already, but I am not enjoying it, at least not today.  This protein only stage doesn’t give a lot of choice in foods and especially if you are having a busy day and not at home for very long to prepare and cook meals.

But today started off badly with the oat bran omelette which yesterday I had at lunch time with sweet chilli tuna on top and it tasted quite nice, but I think that was due to the tuna.  Today I was going to be out all day so I thought I would have the oat bran omelette for breakfast with scrambled egg on top.

I did remember today to add some salt and some chives to the scrambled egg but the still seemed to lack a bit of flavour, probably because I am use to having a bit of cheese in my scrambled egg.

I must say the oat bran omelette didn’t taste all that nice  this morning and then I made the mistake of talking about making it into porridge and that is something I would never do.  I should never had even thought about porridge because as soon as I took that last mouthful of oat bran omelette and swallowed I just brought it straight back up again.

You see I have porridge issues.  I was born in Scotland so my family were big on porridge.  We moved to Australia when I was five after my Mum and Dad separated.  Mum worked full time to earn enough money to put us to private school so my sister and I went to my Aunty and Uncles house every morning and afternoon.  My Aunty made me eat porridge for breakfast EVERY morning and I HATED it.  Honestly, it would take me at least an hour every morning to eat that bowl of porridge because I just couldn’t bring myself to swallow it and it would take forever to get through a bowl.  This went on for years and it didn’t matter how often I said that I didn’t like porridge or how long it took me to eat it, they still made me eat it every morning.  Until one morning I swallowed a mouthful and then threw up.  Hey, guess what…. they finally believed me that I didn’t like it.

I’ve never been able to eat porridge since and this morning as soon as I mentioned that some people make porridge with oat bran, it just made me feel like I was eating porridge.  So after this mornings experience I don’t know how I’ll go tomorrow with my oat bran.

So let’s get past breakfast.  My oldest son had a rugby carnival today where they spent the whole day playing against other schools and I was there all day, so I knew I had to have something for lunch that I could take with me.  So I actually grabbed a protein shake and took that with me.  I’m not sure if it’s ok to have protein shakes on the Dukan diet or not but I had one anyway.  The first couple of mouthfuls were ok, but the more I drank the less I liked it.  I also took a low-fat yoghurt with me which wasn’t too bad.  One of the other kids there was eating a sausage roll for lunch and I have to say it looked quite nice.

Then tonight is Friday night and the boys have football training so we don’t get home until almost 7pm, so usually on a Friday night we have something quick and easy for dinner.  So I made toasted sandwiches for the rest of the family and I could so easily have eaten one myself.  I really didn’t know what to cook up for myself as my choices for a quick dinner were quite limited.  I had one piece of fish left over from last night so I cooked that up with some crab meat and a sauce made with plain yoghurt and dijon mustard.  I’m sorry to say that it wasn’t very nice at all and I struggled to eat it.  I finished off with a Fromage Frais.

I did manage to fit in my 20 minutes exercise this afternoon, I went for a run.  I did stop and walk a few times but I would have run for close to 20 minutes and walked about five minutes.

So that is my day 2 of the Dukan diet and I hope that tomorrow will be better.  I’m really not too keen on this protein only stage and I know during the Cruise phase half of that will be protein only days, so I really need to find myself some nice recipes or I’ll never make it through.  I’ll have a good look through the book this weekend and organize myself a bit better.
